Contract reviews provided by Blackadders

Contracts help to outline the duties of what's to be expected by both parties. If the worst happens and a claim is brought against you, a good contract will make it easier to build a solid defence for you. Or maybe you have an existing contract and have some queries about it.

CONTRACTS SHOULD WORK IN YOUR FAVOUR

Why invest in a contract lawyer?

If you’re a freelancer who wants the boundaries of a project to be clear it’s worth investing in a contract. Online templates might be appealing but can end up more costly to your business in the long run.

Your contract should exist to protect you by outlining your responsibilities (and what you expect from your client!). Whether you need your existing terms reviewed or a bespoke agreement created from scratch, it’s worth considering:

  • what keeps you awake at night. Are there any clauses you can include in your contract to minimise those worries?
  • the risks you face. Where are your vulnerabilities when working with clients?
  • learning from past mistakes. Is there anything that happened with past projects that you’d like to avoid?

A qualified solicitor will approach your contract with these in mind.

Whilst having a contract isn’t a requirement of your professional indemnity insurance, it can help build a more robust defence in the event of a dispute. This will lead to a better outcome for you.

There are also contract clauses that will pair nicely with your insurance. For example, ensuring the jurisdiction that governs your contract matches that of your insurance policy.

Working without a contract can muddy the water when it comes to outlining what duties are to be expected of both parties. This is why we’ve partnered with Blackadders—to put you in touch with qualified solicitors to assist with your contract needs.

With Jack helped me through a stressful situation. They bent over backwards to help me! They were very patient with me and always stayed in contact throughout my claim to make sure everything was dealt with accordingly. They explained everything clearly to me (I’m not really good at this sort of stuff!) and were a delight to work with. It's clear to see how much With Jack cares for their clients. I’m really grateful for their help.
