We can’t get through a month without contents insurance claims. Freelancers need to repair or replace their equipment that’s been lost, stolen or suffered accidental damage.
Contents insurance is our most used product when it comes to claims
Whilst all of the claims we had over the last month were small in terms of value, I encourage customers to use their insurance where possible. Your renewal premium will be unaffected if the claim is:
- under £10,000
- there’s no more than 1 claim per policy period
Late payments continue to be a thorn in the side
This month two customers benefitted from Timely—our credit control service. The freelancers were collectively owed several thousand pounds.
One situation was due to cashflow issues and the client was trying to buy themselves time. The other was down to dissatisfaction with the work, but when approached to discuss their reason for non-payment they paid up.
Understand your rights without expensive legal fees
One freelancer used the legal advice helpline to learn more about their options when a client filed for insolvency. There’s a formal process to follow if clients become insolvent. You have a higher chance receiving what’s owed to you understand what your rights are.
On many occasions freelancers have approached us for help after a client has become insolvent, but they’ve opened the letter that’s sent to creditors later than they should have meaning the window of opportunity to act has now passed.
You’ll have a higher chance of getting what’s owed to you if you’re aware of the process, so if you have legal expenses insurance make use of the legal advice helpline!
