Mental health support for freelancers

The ‘mental health in freelancing during 2024’ study from Leapers highlighted the problems freelancers face. Not only did 45% say their mental health declined in 2024, but most freelancers don’t feel supported.

After reading the Leapers study around mental health in freelancing during 2024, it’s clear there isn’t enough support for freelancer’s emotional wellbeing.

Some of the issues freelancers are facing include:

  • isolation
  • decline in mental health due to cost of living and challenges finding work
  • late payments
  • lack of support

Our ethos at With Jack is to help you be a confident freelancer. Whilst we can’t help with all of these issues, I want to highlight what help is available.

Confidential counselling

There’s a confidential counselling helpline freelancers have access to as part of your legal expenses insurance.

This is a telephone service with qualified counsellors. You can discuss your feelings, anxiety and emotional upset regarding work in a confidential format.

Whilst the helpline isn’t designed to assist with long term mental health conditions, it can provide support to freelancers who are feeling stressed about many of the issues highlighted in the study.

This is a judgement-free service.

To use this service, look for the ‘counselling’ number on your insured schedule PDF.

Late payments

Here are some of our services to assist with payment issues:

  1. Debt recovery provided by the legal expenses insurer
  2. Mitigation costs clause in your professional indemnity policy
  3. Timely, our credit control service
  4. Client due diligence service

Between these services we’re confident we can find solutions to many of the late payment issues freelancers are facing.

We can’t help with insolvency, but we can often find solutions to payment issues involving:

  • client ghosting
  • dissatisfaction with work
  • cashflow issues

The topic of late payments is something we’re constantly exploring, with the aim of finding solutions for you.

I hope these resources are in some way helpful.

We asked ourselves one important question…

What do we want out of an insurance partner?

With Jack is the answer
