It feels like a long time I’ve been harping on about ‘making insurance better’. That’s because it has been.
For a long time I’ve wanted to build an insurance company with design and technology at its core. Two years ago I tried fulfilling this goal by launching Insurance by Jack.
Insurance by Jack’s business model was flawed from day one. It was completely dependent upon third-parties. I was using someone else’s platform (quote system) to distribute someone else’s insurance policies through.
I didn’t exercise any creative control over the process and wasn’t able to fulfil my goal.
Going back to the drawing board, I’ve partnered with Worry+Peace and become an Appointed Representative regulated by the FCA.
This partnership enables With Jack to own more of the customer journey.
It’s no longer Insurance by Jack—now it’s With Jack. New name, new product and new system. One step closer to the goal.
Who is With Jack?
With Jack is born out of a desire for several things.
Firstly, a desire to use design and technology to simplify the experience of buying (and understanding!) your insurance.
Purchasing insurance can be a complicated process. I remember it well from when I was an ex-freelancer. Many people, including myself, buy insurance without really understanding how it can help them. It’s crucial With Jack addresses the question of, “How can this be simpler?”. We might not get it right from the start, but we’ll continually evolve and improve.
We’ll be processing quotes manually in the beginning—not instantly. It gives us an opportunity to be in the trenches and interact with early customers. I want you, our customer, to help shape With Jack.
Secondly, I created With Jack because I’ve been a freelancer. Positioning With Jack to serve freelancers was a no-brainer. It’s an audience I can identify with and speak to, and it’s an audience that mainstream insurers haven’t been serving properly.
I want to be an approachable figurehead with insurance. While Jack offers a non-advised role, we’ll provide a customer journey tailored to freelancers, key information to help you make an informed decision about your insurance and benefits that are relevant to you.
Lastly, the insurance industry needs change. The FCA is aware of this and has launched Project Innovate, encouraging startups into the industry.
Arguably, innovation doesn’t matter much if you’re not getting the simple things right. It’s important you have confidence in your insurance provider.
That’s just as important to With Jack as providing a smoother experience via better design and technology.

Our launch is small. We’re specialising in professional indemnity insurance for freelance web designers, graphic designers, developers, consultants, photographers, copywriters and illustrators. Professional indemnity is the most popular cover for this group.
We’ll be focused on acting as your agent in placing the insurance, and providing great customer experience as and when you need it.
