Legal advice for freelancers from independent advisors

Not every dispute will trigger your insurance. Sometimes you want guidance to understand where you stand or how to approach a situation. The legal advice helpline makes business legal help affordable for freelancers because it's included in your legal expenses insurance premium.

Affordable business legal advice

Instead of paying expensive, upfront fees for legal advice, use the helpline included with your legal expenses insurance to speak to a legal expert. Ensure you’re on the right side of client conflicts, copyright law and more, and handle client conversations with more confidence than ever before.

HOW TO GET LEGAL HELP

How does the legal service work?

If you’ve purchased legal expenses insurance then the number for the helpline can be found on your insured schedule. You’ll have received this document when purchasing or renewing your insurance.

Freelancers work unconventional hours and your insurance takes this into consideration with the helpline operational 7 days a week. Your call will be handled by one of 32 qualified solicitors who are on hand to help.

You will be expected to provide an overview of the situation you’d like help with. This can be a general query or related to a dispute you’re currently experiencing. This ensures your query is allocated to an appropriately experienced legal advisor with knowledge of that particular law.

For example, perhaps you’ve been accused of infringing a third-party’s copyright and you’d like to learn more about copyright law. Or maybe you’re amidst a contract dispute and want to understand if you’re on the right side of things.

Please note this service is limited to business matters within UK and EEA law.

Here are some topics our customers find the helpline useful for:

  • Small claims court – a legal advisor can help you prepare for a potential court hearing
  • Payment disputes – refund requests, non-payment and late payment are common problems for freelancers. Understand your rights to bolster your chance of getting paid
  • Copyright law – explore what options are available to you if someone has unlawfully used an asset you are the copyright holder of
  • Intellectual property – learn more about protecting your ownership and safeguarding your intellectual property
  • Client disputes – if you’re engaged in a disagreement with a client it can be helpful to speak to an independent third-party

Remember! The helpline is included in the cost of your legal expenses insurance so use it as often as you need to. This will never impact your premium. This makes legal advice more accessible for freelancers because legal expenses insurance costs about £6.50 per month.
